How we calculate this

The phonecall.app figure is the live rate from our public rate card, multiplied by your chosen call length. The carrier roaming and Skype Out figures are fixed, common-knowledge reference rates, shown so you can see the difference at a glance.

Why phonecall.app is cheaper

No carrier markup

Your mobile carrier adds a heavy roaming surcharge on top of the real cost of connecting a call. We bill the wholesale route rate plus a small, flat margin, and nothing else.

No monthly subscription

There is no plan to sign up for and no minimum spend. You add credit when you need it, and your balance never quietly turns into a recurring fee.

No app to install

Calls run in your browser tab. There is nothing to download, and the person you call does not need an app or an account, it simply rings their normal phone.

Per-second billing

We charge by the second, not rounded up to the next whole minute. A 75-second call costs 75 seconds, so you never pay for time you did not use.

Frequently asked questions

Why are carrier roaming rates so high?

Roaming rates bundle the foreign network's wholesale fee with a large retail markup from your home carrier. That markup, not the underlying cost of the call, is what pushes a roaming minute up to several dollars.

What about WhatsApp or FaceTime?

Those apps only connect you to other people who use the same app. phonecall.app dials a real phone number, so it reaches any landline or mobile, even if the other person has never heard of us.

Do I need an account?

You can try a free one-minute call to confirm the rate and quality before you sign up. To keep calling you add a small amount of credit, with no subscription and no minimum.

Is this calculator accurate in real time?

The phonecall.app figure uses the same live rate card the app bills from, so it matches what you would pay today. The roaming and Skype Out figures are fixed reference values for comparison, not live quotes from those providers.

How does pay-as-you-go work?

You add credit once, then each call draws down your balance at the per-minute rate shown here, billed by the second. When you run low you top up again, and unused credit stays yours.
